This summer I found myself wanting to escape to simpler times surrounded by the wild countryside. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, fields as far as the eye could see. Swimming in shallow bends of the river. Making dirt roads for my bike in the barn. Climbing trees. Spending hours on a tire swing in my backyard. Eating fresh food from the garden. Daydreaming and playing. What I would give to be able to allow my children to have those same experiences.
I soon realized what I'm longing for can be described at "cottagecore." It encompasses all that I have been craving: the simplicity of slowing down, surrounded by nature and getting away from the noise of the city — it’s all I’ve been able to dream of. I imagine myself taking care of my family on a farm, feeding them fresh meals from our garden, spending time nourishing my soul on a porch swing, wandering the woods, and playing with my kids in the great green yard. I may even give in and let a four-legged friend join our family!
